You know what they say, life (and romance) will not be the same after you have your first baby. We argue, in the best way ever! Now it’s your time to define life, love, romance, and what matters to you and your family. You may be distracted with the new joyful addition to your household lately, but with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you can start to prioritize your relationship with your significant other again. Keeping the romance alive as new parents will not be easy peasy lemon squeezy, but it’s definitely not impossible either!
Here are some ways to keep the romance alive and celebrate Valentine’s Day as parents.
With so much information, entertainment, and different ways to relax available, sometimes it can be hard to spend quality time with a loved one. This is especially hard when all you want is some peace, quiet, and rest as new parents. However, it is essential to spend intentional and quality time together with your partner, especially when it’s hard. When you make the effort and see the effort from your significant other, you will appreciate every minute more.
All the movies and lists with big red heart-shaped balloons, teddy bears, fancy dinners are nice, but they can be a little bit inconvenient when you have a baby at home, with no help or a babysitter. You can invent your own definition of romance, simply because you are the only ones to decide what that looks like for your relationship! You know your partner the best, and you know what matters to them. It can be a nice dinner out, or it can be acts of service like cooking for your partner! Whatever it is, make it your own.
You can make any day your own Valentine’s Day if you’d like! Being flexible with the date and the activities will give you more headspace to plan and enjoy your date!
It doesn’t have to be only couples who enjoy Valentine’s Day! You can celebrate Love Day and enjoy the day with the whole family! You can make Valentine’s Day cars with your children, cook together, bake heart-shaped cookies, play and sing songs, and watch a cozy family movie! On the day of love, why would your baby (or children) be left out?
Especially if you have a new baby, relaxing and resting can be the most amazing Valentine’s gift from your partner, and to your partner! You can give your partner a couple of hours of baby-free time if you think they could use some self-care and rest.
As parents, you have probably already discovered that life can be pretty unpredictable, and sometimes everything that can go wrong, does. Valentine’s Day is no exception to this! Managing your expectations and not trying to control every little detail will help you a lot, believe us, you don’t need another stressor in your life. This day should be about love and appreciation, not stressing and planning!
